Blog #14: Final Three-Paragraph Reflection with focus on “Hat Project” Progress

During this past semester I have gone further than I thought I ever would have in terms of the works and effort and enjoyment I have had while working with literary works. From reading common day pieces to old tongued poetry- a learned a lot about not only reading and writing but how to view the world differently. With binary opposites, complexity inside story plots as well as seeing myself through a hero's journey- I have come so far (though I still haven't found that elixir yet). I bet this next semester will be just as full, just as rigorous and hopefully have just as much food. This has been an experience, one journey I cannot wait to continue.

For me the most meaningful part was the test, grade, retest, regrade process. Where I can see where I went wrong and give it a second try- along with seeing the perspectives and hearing the thoughtful advice my group provided me to advance my work. Working through the literary devices was easier than last year, for we used it more than for just memorize and test for vocabulary. I can integrate these ideas, words, and concepts into my own work. Complexity has one rule- its always deeper. Never really connected until we got to the poison party, but by then I really understood it and can now explain a piece in more more depth than before- and explain it with even more complexity. I may not have reaches a full 10 terms to recite and repeat but if I see the word I can explain to you what it means- still a lot more work to do, because 10 words are going to do squat in this huge literature world we are surrounded by. I need to be armed and prepared, to read, to write, to analyze, to explain, to appreciate; every word, sentence, and comma. Time to stay in my saddle for this Derby and keep on going.

Having been in this class I learned I need to step up my game. Dive even deeper into these pieces and I will learn to enjoy what we are doing even more. Words and terms mean nothing if you don't use them- so to improve my memorization and analyzation I will start to incorporate these techniques into more of what I do, inside and outside of the class. If I'm going to be a good writer- I have the be a great reader. It doesn't mean I need an A (though I would really like one), it just means I really have to try. So watch me, literature- you better be ready.
