Blog #14: Final Three-Paragraph Reflection with focus on “Hat Project” Progress
During this past semester I have gone further than I thought I ever would have in terms of the works and effort and enjoyment I have had while working with literary works. From reading common day pieces to old tongued poetry- a learned a lot about not only reading and writing but how to view the world differently. With binary opposites, complexity inside story plots as well as seeing myself through a hero's journey- I have come so far (though I still haven't found that elixir yet). I bet this next semester will be just as full, just as rigorous and hopefully have just as much food. This has been an experience, one journey I cannot wait to continue.
For me the most meaningful part was the test, grade, retest, regrade process. Where I can see where I went wrong and give it a second try- along with seeing the perspectives and hearing the thoughtful advice my group provided me to advance my work. Working through the literary devices was easier than last year, for we used it more than for just memorize and test for vocabulary. I can integrate these ideas, words, and concepts into my own work. Complexity has one rule- its always deeper. Never really connected until we got to the poison party, but by then I really understood it and can now explain a piece in more more depth than before- and explain it with even more complexity. I may not have reaches a full 10 terms to recite and repeat but if I see the word I can explain to you what it means- still a lot more work to do, because 10 words are going to do squat in this huge literature world we are surrounded by. I need to be armed and prepared, to read, to write, to analyze, to explain, to appreciate; every word, sentence, and comma. Time to stay in my saddle for this Derby and keep on going.
Having been in this class I learned I need to step up my game. Dive even deeper into these pieces and I will learn to enjoy what we are doing even more. Words and terms mean nothing if you don't use them- so to improve my memorization and analyzation I will start to incorporate these techniques into more of what I do, inside and outside of the class. If I'm going to be a good writer- I have the be a great reader. It doesn't mean I need an A (though I would really like one), it just means I really have to try. So watch me, literature- you better be ready.

The shift here it from indefinite inaction to the belief and power of action. Hamlet is wasting his time and realized how weak he is for waiting and makes a promise of himself to fight for a worthy cause and revitalize the purity of Denmark through his Father’s revenge. He is definite, dark, and dangerous. Everything is about to go down and we can tell- Hamlet shows no mercy. Moral ambiguity is no more, he is set in stone.

POINT 1
The actions of what others say to them often reflect to opposite of how the person portrays themselves.

“This above all: to thine ownself be true,

Thou canst not then be false to any man.” (1.3.78-80)
Polonius tells his son that the worse thing a man can do is to others say one thing and not be true to himself so it makes him morally ambiguous and confused to where one’s own morals may lie. This is a quote against the prospect of ambiguity though as we find later Laertes is driven by his anger and will of the king to be untrue to himself. His own morals of others affecting and dividing himself.

““Given the hypocrisy of the court, where one may not say what one means, honesty must either hold its tongue or express itself through indirection” (Levin, 271).
All characters in Hamlet must not portray their real selves, or else even more trouble will appear. Though even as they deceive each other with words and actions unlike themselves. The characters also in fact deceive themselves, dividing their attention between being themselves and acting.

Lydia is very shy and lives most of her life isolated from the town. They portray her as evil and unloyal and evil- yet she is very gentle and kind and just… broken. Though as people bustle her about her son's death they make her into someone she isn't.

A pedestal is a place of worship but then we hear that he is to be despaired, not loved. For what are the leader’s ideals if he seems so loved and feared? Very unknowing of his desires leave him ambiguous. For his thoughts and the actions of his people do not seem to align. The kingdom fell so it can be assumed the people feared him but he in fact believed the people had adored him.

“In cheerful godliness; and yet thy heart/ The lowest duties on herself did lay.” (Wordsworth, 13-14)
London is said to be working in cheerful godliness in state but is juxtaposed when she is said to be doing the lowest of jobs. If England is of the highest assessment of power and praise in godliness then why are the lowest jobs and dirtiest or saddest put upon her? Is it because she has the forced hand of the people and cannot think for herself or is she caring for her people?

“We, too, make noises when we laugh or weep:/ Words are for those with promises to keep.” (Gascoigne, 15-16)
We see words of knowledge as advancement in thought and reason and connectivity. But the opposite is true as words separate us and cause us to be lonelier than that of which w appear to be. Nature we would see as more disconnected because it cannot communicate but in truth it is more aligned and purposeful together, the opposite of what people would assume.

POINT 2
Major conflicts that affect the internal belief of a character is a person vs person conflict. These actions truly show how characters interact with one another as well as themselves.

“God hath given you one face, and you make/ yourself another” (3.1.143-144)
How previously Hamlet saw Ophelia as one person though as their conflict continues he being to realize even more that she is someone entirely different.

“Hamlet’s double edged comment, ‘O, but she’ll keep her word,’ (3.2.217-218) is ostensibly another bit of polite conversation. Actually, he is distorting the play-within-the-play queen in order to drive home an invidious contrast. The Play-Queen will have no chance to keep her word; the Queen of Denmark had a chance and failed” (Levin 271-272).
The character vs character snarl here shows publically and passive aggressively brooding anger towards his mother for her remarriage. It twists the conspiring Hamlet deeper into actual madness as he pulls himself away from his loving mother,

Lydia is a very stand still keep quiet character but has her passions. This character conflict displays how her passions get in her way with the connections with other characters. Her ex-husband now puts a feeling on her that allows her to believe that she will never be loved.

There is a vision of here of a strong king allowing his land and people to shatter and demolish into the sand. Though he had a duel side as he interacted with the people, he had mocked them and commanded them with his hand. Though he did care for them and fed them with the passion in his heart. Dividing the views of him between self and others.

It can be assumed that the people of London are having conflicts with themselves and each other that leads to this moral downfall. While the positive can result from having contact with Milton. Milton can make all of the conflict go away, causing all purity to flow through and correct all of London once again.

Nature has no true internal conflicts between character and character accept to live (hunting). We do not know of plants holding grudges or mice plotting revenge. Only because character and people have problems with other characters and people do we interact different with others and plot differently than others.

Blog #12: Hamlet Social Media Blog Post
Hamlet Act 5- And The Beat Goes On . . . Even If The Characters Don't (Blog- Ophelia) I told them I was mad, bewildered and cut to the throat with blasphemy- no matter how many songs I had quoted or sang none felt quite right. If this parasitic madness was to take off my head to be it, but allow my lips to coax a last song. A song of endless love and painful self wallowing. A lyrical rejoicing of what could be beyond the still waters of the vacant creek. "I shall th' effect of this good lesson keep/ As watchman to my heart" (1.3.129-130) I wander and watch the cloves of fermenting love that Hamlet sends for me, though no love ballad accommodates his voice quite so sweetly as a poisoned perfume. Our love was held a secret and hated among many as I was commanded to leave his rotting heart to heal my own, I had said "No, my good lord; but as you did command/ I did repel his letters and denied..." (2.1.1067-1068). I was so looked down upon by others even before I was seen as deranged... because they had made me question myself and my place, because "Could beauty, my lord, have better commerce than with honesty?" (3.1.1804) but soon I was to realize "I was the more deceived" (3.1.1813) for I didn't even believe in myself.
"There was something so pleasant about that place/ Even your emotions have an echo in so much space" (Barkley) it was falsely pleasant for I was believed I was protected, but protected from what? From myself and what I believed? Gnarls Barkley sang the song that finally made me fully understand my deranged state, Crazy. His quizzical and forthright complex mannerisms of his songs connect with how I can barely communicate myself to other except through song. I explain the truth and reveal all, and they still refuse to see me. Though once insanity had become my lover I can speak for myself and remind others what they must be. I wonder if I could teach all of them the idea that woman can love and think for themselves, "O, what a noble mind in her o'er thrown!/ The courtier's, scholar's, soldier's, eye, tongue, sword,..." (3.1.1841-1842). My voice with chimes and calls of songs forgotten will remind them of what they themselves had forgotten. And after they come into realization of why I am right they will cry, "You are keen, my lord, you are keen." (3.2.2141) for with my wisdom they will realize their one wrongs. For they will be my young students and learn from me a many things, I will advise them in the smartest way a free thinking woman can, "Play let's have no words of this; but when they ask, you what/ it means, say you this:..." (4.6.2108-2109) teaching them the properly crazed way of consideration. For those who don't listen, don't listen for a particular reason, "But it wasn't because I didn't know enough/I just knew too much" (Barkley).
For I am now free... free without my judging mind to follow. Though learning is as it is and it will take its time for personal realization, "I hope all will be well. We must be patient" (4.5.2930). I will constantly remind them to think and work and proclaim that of what must change in the world, "There's rosemary, that's for remembrance. Pray you, love,/remember. And there is pansies, that's for thoughts." (4.5.3053-3054) for the saddest thing the world could do... would be to forget that ones purest self can think for thy purest self. The king and my brother may stand against me, but now I am myself, not them "Who do you think you are?/Ha ha ha, bless your soul/You really think you're in control?" (Barkley) and if they stand against me or with me I guess the only proper response would be, "Maybe we're crazy" (Barkley). Though Gnarl Barkley's sense of questionable reality and dispute of control and power play the hidden tune to my heart. He may sound frantic is in the climbing waves of his voice, but he truly feels the contemptuous feelings set against them and pushes then right off his own back, honestly and truthfully- just as I wish to do.
"I remember when when I lost my mind" (Bakley), it opened up the world to my own thoughts. The direct message of the song I will continue to contemplate even after my last heart beat sounds I will continue to follow think with my own mind as long as it takes, "Indeed, la, without an oath, I'll make an end on't!" (4.5.2918) so an oath I shall make with the forget-me-not's, to never forget myself. "And it's no coincidence I've come/ And I can die when I'm done" (Barkley).

Blog #12A: Selfie Extra Credit Blog Post
Hamlet's Instagram Post
This post as made public by hamlet enthralls upon the basis of being with Ophelia- putting on the facade of romantic joy in order to shade his abusive pride that he hampers upon Ophelia's questioning nature. His joy and love for Ophelia quickly turns sour as she claims that she is return Hamlet's love letters to him, to which he starts to ramble and become very ill-tempered, "I did love you once" (3.1.115) which then completely slays that idea with the next following lines, "You should have believed me; for virtue cannot so inoculate our old stock but we shall relish of it. I loved you not" (3.1.117-119). His pride for his emotions and self value over cast any previous affect he harbored for Ophelia, as if building a damn in his river of love, pride stopped off communication and events turned violent. Hamlet, unable to control his pride, lashes out and attacks Ophelia to take lut his anger as she had questioned and prodded his sense of self. The picture he took doesn't only represent his master work of prideful violence but yet his joy in wrecking havoc upon any persona coming in his way, directing all the subjugated second-hand pride and ferocity he enacted at Ophelia towards his Uncle, King Claudius, as he yells into the one-way mirror, "God hath give you one face, and you make yourself another... it hath made me mad. I say we will have no moe marriage: Those that are married already, all but one, shall live, the rest shall keep as they are" (3.1.143-149). This is one of Hamlet's last warnings to his father that he is 'descending' into prideful madness and will be coming for him soon. Because Hamlet knows the truth.

Riveting up each maidens wind filled hair,
Embodying the core of crying men-
Even the joy can be heard in despair.
The dreadful calling of your holy sin,
Can be withheld in a winterfell wren.
The part of this ode may be small but as I worked alone I am very proud of this portion that could become a beautiful full ode. I might actually work on this on my own and turn it into a full fledged piece. I have never been a fan of odes, though with this project it has become- if not a passionate but- a friendly relationship between myself and Ode formatted poetry. Though only limited amounts of the population may understand the reasoning I hope the virtuoso individuals understand my meaning and the non-musical individuals appreciate the words and rhythms chosen.

Blog #10: “Pop Villanelle”
Pop Villanelle
Nay Sir, Nay
Nay, to the lustful hand and voice of you.
Questions and answers, left barren, no care,
I do believe you- sir- have no clue.
Gentle hands and gentle tongues laced with glue,
Sickly words blossoming within my hair.
Nay, to the lustful hand and voice of you.
My innocence upon your gaze did flew,
You do not hear my blessing prayers, do you?
I do believe you- sir- have no clue.
Names kins and skin for thee to never view,
You and me will never make a loved pair.
Nay, to the lustful hand and voice of you.
You are not called to wait within a queue,
Step away now or you will be hit square.
I do believe you- sir- have no clue.
Arrogant charm in hope for me to screw,
But even stars know I won’t hold your heir-
